Ignorance is part of it, but the real problem is that he doesn’t allow anyone to advise him, and surrounds himself with people who are all about agreeing with him to benefit themselves. I have no doubt that someone in the circle at some point mentioned tariffs, and he took off with his idea of what that was without anyone correcting him.
Hopefully they remember that when the time comes to make choices.

It shouldn’t be surprising after what he did. Run a poll for two representatives in a state, one who is doing something and one that backstabbed efforts to help the public, I would hope the first is favored.

We’ve always had two major parties from the very beginning. But Washington was right. Perhaps the way things were set up was the problem. If only we had ways to change how the government worked and the rules weren’t set in stone.

The problem is that invoking the term “civil war” for the US calls on a historical image of two clear sides, or perhaps the very vague handwaving history of the recent movie of the same name. There might finally be some sort of civil unrest against the government in some ways, but it won’t be a Blue vs. Grey organized movement. More a fall into chaos where some places will go on as usual, while others might be a war zone type scenario caused by official lashing out at public actions. It’s unprecedented, like most of recent events, and unusual because of the size and makeup of the US itself. It won’t be like any other civil war.
That only old and/or rich people get to decide on.
No one is surprised at this point. The only variation is the level of acceptance. There’s a large percentage that is totally okay with this, and another large percentage that is “what can be done?” apathetic. That’s why it continues and grows.
We tried that in the US initially, but it grew out of favor. Cult of personality won.
As I just commented, he isn’t doing it alone, he’s got yes men all around who are helping and are just as responsible for the disasters.
And not to elevate GWB, but he did listen to people around him and make choices based on their guidance (good and bad). The early stages of a pandemic response team was started because he read a book on the dangers of pandemics, asked someone to confirm if it was factual, and then set things in motion, later developed more by Obama. Guess who disabled it? Think he asked anyone if it was probably a good thing to leave in place?
