That’s quite interesting. Is it because of the light produced when the materia starts spinning around in the accretion disk in very high speeds? I doubt hawking radiation would do anywhere near that much

It’s to protect from falling debris from the ceiling. How much it helps is debatable but it’s best they have there in school. More effective on traditional bombing than nukes

So for the astronaut it’d take approximately a year to reach light speed if accelerating at 1G, and another year to slow down
