  • At the small college I attended, Geology 101 was known as “Rocks for Jocks” because it was the class jocks took to satisfy their science requirement. In one hallway was a big display board with a bunch of labeled rock samples on it. If you memorized all of them well enough to identify them on the final, you were almost guaranteed to pass. So there were always football jocks standing there studying that board.

  • Also, look how people jump to the conclusion that you’re either at one extreme side or the opposite extreme side of any issue - usually the worst one - because they spot an element of what you’re saying that matches up with some meme they saw, that reduces a complex issue to a clear-cut binary choice between good and evil. Not that memes or AI are bad, people just lazily apply them way beyond their level of precision.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

  • Apollo 11 made the first actual moon landing, so if this transcript is from Apollo 10 the bags of shit are currently circling the sun in the lunar module, which was jettisoned on the way back to Earth. According to Google it’s in a heliocentric orbit, “drifting aimlessly around the solar system.”

Even more details: the abbreviations CMP, LMP and CDR in the transcript mean Command Module Pilot (John Young), Lunar Module Pilot (Gene Cernan), and Commander (Tom Stafford), all now deceased. Young and Cernan each returned to walk on the moon in Apollo 16 and 17.
