Zohran Mamdani has won the race for New York City mayor, according to Decision Desk HQ, ushering in a new era of progressive politics in the city and reigniting the debate over the Democratic Party’s future.
Mamdani, a 34-year-old democratic socialist, is poised to become the first millennial and first Muslim to lead New York City, after a campaign that pulled off one of the most stunning political upsets in recent memory. He defeated former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who mounted a long-shot independent bid after losing to Mamdani in the Democratic primary, and Republican Curtis Sliwa in his bid to succeed Mayor Eric Adams.
Mamdani focused heavily on affordability, pledging to freeze rent, establish city-owned grocery stores and make buses free for riders. He quickly became a progressive icon as well as a polarizing figure within the party over his positions, so much so that it divided prominent New York Democratic leadership over whether to endorse him.

Wtf
why does the police has appearently so.much funding but this is not used in actually giving the officers any training ever? Like it says they get 21 weeks of training?? this is insane
That’s a lot of training! But the problem isn’t training. The problem is funding and weapons.
If we slashed their funding 50% and took away their weapons, it would significantly reduce the harm done by police
Also would help if we made all the lost lawsuits paid out of their pensions. That would fix the institutional racism thing.
i am confused? are you like sarcastic or not, it takes 6-12 months to become an officer that is definitly not alot?/

It should be possible to teach people not to shoot people in the back in that time. That’s my point, training isn’t the issue.
? ofc it is not the only issue, but it is a big part of it
Comparison worldwide: https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/police-training-requirements-by-country
And here the mention not enough training aswell, and say that somehow they have no money for training: https://counciloncj.org/task-force-calls-for-overhaul-of-u-s-police-training-national-standards-to-reduce-use-of-force/
and this is a study how training in specifically this procedural justice reduced crime and arrests, and changed the behaviour of officers and improved their perception
