The comments on social media about this article are a vibe…
What’s “a vibe”? Help grandpa out.
It’s something like the emotional atmosphere or something’s aura.
So a “vibe check” is evaluating how something makes you feel. If it makes you feel good, it passes.
In this scenario is op agreeing with the comments (they feel good) or disagreeing with them?
Its like saying “these comments are something else”. In and of itself its a neutral statement that can be taken as a sarcastic negative or a positive. Usually leaning positive, but without hearing it with spoken inflection all you can do is guess
I would say that, unless it’s specifically stated that the vibe is bad, “a vibe” and “vibing” are terms with positive connotations.
So saying “the comments are a vibe” is like saying “I like how these comments make me feel”.
It’s like in the Beach Boys song “Good Vibrations”.
That’s great grandpa age. I’m taking about someone in middle age.
Bro, listen to Good Vibrations, it’s an awesome song.
Then listen to Pet Sounds in the dark with headphones, it’ll change your life.
I like how Internet culture and slang now belongs to multiple generations, because I remember when age was far more linguistically encoded online and it was less interesting than what I see more of now, where in most anonymous social contexts the only indicator of anyone’s age is their perspective on life. Still, there’s the occasional freebie. In this comment chain for example I would have guessed the ages ranged from 26 to 42 until someone felt unfairly dated by the beach boys lol. Age is just a number. I’m glad you’re here.
What social media app is that? Why just say “on social media” and post a single screenshot of one app, and not even mention the name of the app?
This is Instagram.
I know, I wish I didn’t know, too.
Gotcha… So this is just OP’s personal feed and likely doesn’t reflect the overall sentiment in “social media” as the comment implies.
These are the top comments of the post.

Yeah probably not. Instagram has a pretty big racism and bigotry and anti-intellectualism problem. The average user over there does not know what imperialism means, to my eyes.
What is a vibe check?
Vibe checking someone is essentially looking how the person is (based on actions, looks) and judging them. The meme „didn’t know you were chill like that“ is the conclusion of a vibe check. Eg the person judges them to be a cool person in that case.
Ahh I see. That makes sense. I guess it’s good that people are talking like that on more mainstream social networks
So I actually read the article and everything he says seems good and correct… people need to calm down and unlearn this cynical desire to mock, be self-righteous, and hate. That’s what fascists want people to do.
Cringe.
