Tracking the foreign nationals detained by ICE as tourists or U.S. residents

U.S. tourists and permanent residents from around the world have been arrested, detained and deported under the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.

Why it matters: The recent high-profile detentions and deportations demonstrate an escalation in tactics from immigration officials, accused of targeting some for their political stances or involvement.

I’m a UK based professional and I come to the US for a conference each year. I won’t be coming again.

I dont want to have my phone searched at the border, I dont want to risk arbitrary arrest and detention without legal representation, and frankly I dont want to spend my money in the US anymore (its a week long conference and costs a couple of thousand pounds including conference fees, flights, hotel and expenses). I’m already trying to buy European because of trumps other behaviour, so not spending mony in going to theUS is an easy win too.

Now multiply that out - even if its a small percentage overall there are lots of people who are no longer going to want to visit the US in the current climate. Expect a downturn in US tourism guvent the horror stories that are coming our of US ICE detention centres.

Yep, check in on me this Sunday to see how my entry into to the US goes. I’m hopeful for success, but who knows. I land in JFK Saturday night. ✌️

      Good luck, friend.

Last time I entered the country through JFK, I was sent to the secondary screening room. I get sent there almost always that I come to the US, where they waste 2hr or more of my life to tell me that everything is correct and I can continue my travel. Anyways, you are not allowed to use phones or other electronic devices there, so I was bored and listening to the conversations that the immigration officers where having.

A couple of officers were talking about having to work overtime because some officers got fired recently. One of them got fired for watching porn in their work computer. He basically brought a USB with porn, and plugged into his work computer. Turns out the porn had viruses on it, and he infected the computer. The viruses leaked a bunch of data of travelers. I was appalled to what I was hearing.

The other officer that got fired didn’t like American women getting married to foreigners. So he denied entry and sent back every foreigner that came in with visas to get married in the US.

It’s really crazy the shit that happens in the American immigration system.
