    Getting rid of? He is encouraging proliferation by telling Europe that they are on their own. (if they can’t count on our nukes, guess what)

    Only reason I could ever see someone like him getting rid of nuclear weapons is so that it makes a Russian invasion easier than ever before. Hey, we lose all our nuclear arsenal and Russia could easily hold nuclear destruction over our heads if we don’t willingly let them take over.

    In his first term he wanted to restore our nuclear stockpile to peak Cold War levels.

    I can imagine two reasons why he might have changed his mind beyond being a feeble old man:

    1. The pressure of toying with World War III actually started to get to him during the Ukraine talks.
    2. He finds the idea of his potential vassal states being nuclear-armed offensive. Guaranteed he will not get rid of a single American warhead, nor will he pressure his employer to get rid of his. Everyone else needs to “vouch for peace” and disarm.
